Vamanapuram Farmer Producer Company Ltd is part of the Central government’s ambitious initiative to establish 10,000 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) across the country. This initiative aims to empower small and marginal farmers by providing them with collective strength to deal with issues like access to technology, quality seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides, as well as marketing their produce. Our Farmer Producer Company operates within the Vamanapuram block, a vibrant and agriculturally rich region comprising 8 panchayats. The block is home to a diverse community of farmers, artisans, and entrepreneurs, who contribute to its thriving rural economy. With its fertile soil, favourable climate, and extensive irrigation network, the block is an ideal location for cultivating a wide range of crops, including tapioca, banana, paddy, vegetables, fruits, and spices.
Vamanapuram Farmer Producer Company Limited was incorporated in January 2023. Our founding Chairman, Ratheesh V R, along with five other board members, pioneered the initiative. Today, we proudly represent around 350 shareholders from 8 panchayats in the block, fostering a strong community-driven approach to sustainable agriculture and collective growth. By registering as a Producer Company under the Companies Act, 2013, our organization can operate as a private limited company, enjoying flexibility and benefits not available to traditional cooperatives.
As part of this initiative, the central government has allocated funds to support the formation and promotion of FPOs, with the goal of improving farmers’ incomes and rural economies.
We envision a future where every farmer is empowered with modern technology, financial security, and knowledge on sustainable farming practices.
Our mission is to enhance farmers’ productivity, secure their livelihoods, and promote a healthier planet by providing innovative technology, financial support, and sustainable farming knowledge. We are dedicated to building resilient agricultural communities through education, accessibility, and eco-friendly practices.
Vamanapuram block in Thiruvananthapuram district, Kerala, India, has a variety of agricultural products, including coconuts, tapioca, bananas, pepper, and rubber. The block also has a watershed area of 7,985 hectares.
The Vamanapuram river is one of the longest rivers in the district, originating in the Chemunjimotta hills and draining into Anchuthengu Lake. Vamanapuram has great relevance during the Onam festival. The place got its name thanks to the legend of Vamana, the fifth incarnation of Vishnu, who sent king Mahabali to Patala. As per historical manuscripts, the word Vamanapuram means the city of Vamana. And its roots can be traced back to the centuries-old Vamanamoorthi Temple here.
The Vamanapuram river added to the fertility of the region as the place had grand agricultural practices. According to Sashibhooshan, the place cultivated pepper, areca nuts, coconuts and rice. The land flourished in the 17th century. Agricultural products were transported through the river.
According to veteran historian M G Sasibhooshan, the temple is believed to have been constructed in the 13th century. “The names and meanings lie close to the history of the place. Though the temple has the idol of Vishnu, it is believed to be Vamana. The temple lies on the right side of the bank of Vamanapuram river,” he says.
The region boasts an array of tourist attractions, including Ponmudi hills in Peringamala Panchayat and Happy Land, a popular amusement park in Manikkal panchayat. Situated nearby, the pullampara panchayat in vamanapuram block is predominantly agricultural, with vast tracts of land dedicated to vegetable cultivation and paddy fields.
The palode is equally fertile, with extensive paddy fields and numerous rubber plantations. Agriculture is the mainstay of the local economy in vamanapuram block, with the majority of the population engaged in farming as their primary source of livelihood.
